As a client of Monastery Health, you can count on a thorough assessment to determine the cause of your problem and an appropriate individualized treatment program, significant time spent with your therapist, and be educated in skills allowing you to help yourself.

We provide focused treatment based on research-guided techniques that speed up your recovery while educating you about your condition to reduce the risk of relapse.

You do not require a referral to visit a physiotherapist, however some insurance companies require referrals for reimbursement of our services.

Monastery Health Physiotherapists are licensed and registered professionals in good standing with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association as well as the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapists.

Karen Heffernan MLA (Medical Lab Assistant) Karen finished her Phlebotomy program in 1990. Upon completion, she gained employment with The Grace General Hospital. After the closure of the Grace she went to work for Eastern Health. While working at Eastern Health, Karen gained her certification with CSMLS (Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science), extensive work experience at all of Eastern Health sites including the Janeway, and Waterford. Before retiring with Eastern Health, Karen was Team Lead at the St. Clare’s site. She enjoyed having the responsibility of a team, and furthering her education when opportunity arose. Karen brings thirty three plus years experience to our facility.

Bengie Munden M.T., R.Ac., D.TCM. ​ Massage Therapist – M.T. Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine – Dr.TCM Registered Acupuncturist - R.Ac.   Bengie Munden is a massage therapist, licensed Chinese medicine practitioner and a registered acupuncturist. As part of her practice in medical acupuncture and Chinese medicine, Bengie has treated many patients for infertility and is well known in St. John’s for her work in this field. Bengie also has extensive experience and training in cosmetic acupuncture and acupuncture for cellulite. In her practice she combines techniques learned from some of Canada’s favourite and most publicized teachers in the field. Bengie also incorporates her knowledge of professional massage in her treatments. She has appeared in several local papers and TV shows educating the public about her profession.
